State of the island
Baseline facts every candidate's claims are checked against — from the 2026-27 Budget, Manx Care reports, the population report, the Island Plan and the Economic Strategy.
Methodology
Each candidate is assessed on the same nine dimensions — positions, understanding of government, realism and costing, consistency, track record, conduct and relationships, political effectiveness, systemic reform, integrity and interests — using only sources the site can link to: Manx Radio interviews (transcribed), manifestos, campaign websites, Hansard, division records, the Register of Members' Interests and reported news. Every rating carries its evidence; every quote is verbatim and links to its source. Ratings are strong, adequate, weak, insufficient evidence (the record is thin, not that the candidate is weak) or not applicable (the dimension only exists for sitting members — parliamentary effectiveness, the Register of Interests, a Hansard conduct record). Sitting members therefore have more assessable dimensions than newcomers; that is a fact about the evidence, not a judgement. "Source coverage" shows which kinds of source exist for a candidate. Proposals recorded without a stated cost are counted as "uncosted" — a coverage fact shown separately from flags, because in a twenty-minute radio interview almost nobody costs anything. Negative flags were each checked by one independent adversarial pass that tried to refute them; refuted flags were removed and counted. On a second pass over 32 already-verified flags in September, 3 were refuted — "verified" means one adversary could not knock the flag down, not that it is beyond dispute.
What this site deliberately does not do
- It gives no recommendation and publishes no ranking. The priority-weighting control on each constituency page reorders candidates for you, on your own device, by a weighted mean of their ratings; that mean is never shown — there is no composite score on the page — and candidates whose record cannot cover at least half of your weighting are listed unranked.
- It does not research or report candidates' families, faith, health or private lives. Where a candidate has volunteered such context in campaign material, it is quoted verbatim in a separate box and is never scored.
- It does not infer anything from silence: missing interviews, manifestos or records are shown as "not available as of" a date.
- It does not use polling, betting odds or predictions.
